Got a great question from Luke today.  He asked

Hi I will be starting university soon and would like to ask, as a mac user I have avid ect on the mac but in the university they run avid etc on windows, so how would I go about moving the avid bins files etc from window's to mac as, hard drives and flash drives have to be format to only one spec.

Luke

So, here's what I told him.

Hey Luke,

Well, first of all, you'll need to have all your hard drives formatted as Fat32.  It's the only....Universal format that can be written to by both Mac and Windows.  Also, make sure your drives are < 2TB, as that's the largest partition size you can create with FAT32.  Also, 4GB-1KB is the largest file you can make on a FAT32 drive.  As for moving bins back and forth, It's no issue.  MC on both Mac and Windows understand each other's bins.  What you might want to do to make your life easier is just install BootCamp on your Mac, and for MC, you can just edit on the Windows side to keep everything the same.  Otherwise, just remember to keep adding those pesky windows extensions to your mac files when you bring them over (*.avd), and you'll be good to go.

On the Fast Track with Apple's Motion 5 - Chapter 1, Lesson 1: Getting Started

Apple's Motion is one of the best compositing applications on the market today, the problem is it is easily the most misunderstood as well. In the first chapter of our "Fast Track" with Apple's Motion 5, we're going to look at creating a lower third animation, that will give you all the basics you need to move onto more complex projects. In Lesson 1, Kevin P McAuliffe is going to walk you though launching the application, what you need to understand in the project window, and importing your footage to work with. Most of what you are going to learn in Chapter 1 can be applied to Motion 4 as well.

After Effects From The Ground Up: Chapter 1 Lesson 5

In many cases, the first time someone new to Motion Graphics opens Adobe's After Effects, it's to do something with text, and although it might be simple to put letters on the screen, you always find yourself needing to do more. In this lesson we look at text, and examine all the parameters in the "Character" tab, and even look at some presets that you might not have even realized were there.
